Use the Advanced Update applet to update the value of a question, table, or variable for one or more respondents. Only radio questions, radio tables, and coded single select variables can be updated by the Advanced Update applet. This applet is only available to users with the Maker survey role.
The Advanced Update applet is found in the Data Management applet group.
Caution! Use care when updating live respondent data. It is recommended to save a backup of the data locally via export or downloading a response report before applying an update.
To use Advanced Update, select the field and survey records to be updated. Use the Completed, IDs, Date/Time, and Data Cut filters in the Select records box to determine which records are included. Filters can be combined as needed.
Next, use the Field dropdown menu to select the question or variable to be updated. You can type in the Select field... text box to filter the fields to choose from.
The Existing Respondent Data box will populate with the records matching the filter. The records' trans_id
, resp_last_ts
, and field to be updated will be displayed.
Below the Existing Respondent Data box is the Update Field box. This displays the current counts for each of the field's options for the selected records. Click the Change To dropdown menu and select the value that the field will be updated to. Then, click Next in the upper right corner of the screen to continue.
On the next screen, review the information in the Original Respondent Data and Update Field boxes and confirm that the desired records and new value were selected. If any adjustments need to be made, click the Back button to return to the previous screen. Otherwise, select the confirmation checkbox and click the Update Data button to apply the update.
