The Roles applet lets you view system roles (platform-wide permissions) and survey roles (permissions within individual surveys). Custom system or survey roles created for your organization will also appear here.
Each user has one system role server, but can hold multiple survey roles. Use this matrix to learn more about the actions users can take to help you choose the right role for your survey.
To open the applet, go to Admin > Roles in the System Navigation menu.
Overview
-
Roles and rights matrix: View roles (columns) and their permissions or "rights" (rows).
- Use the tabs to toggle between system and survey roles.
-
Search by right: Use the rights dropdown to see which roles include a specific permission, flagged with a
green checkmark. For example, to see which roles can access the survey's source code, click on Survey Roles, expand the Show All Rights dropdown, select "Source Edit Survey," and notice only a Maker can access the survey source code.
- Search by role: Select a role to see its associated rights. For example, to see what actions a Researcher can take, click on Survey Roles, expand the Show All Roles dropdown, select "Researcher," and check the "Show matching rights only" to review everything a Researcher can do and see.
- Compare roles: Select multiple roles for side-by-side comparison.
- View descriptions: Click any role or right to see its full technical description in the right side panel.
