Version Notice: This article covers features in our r9/IS Pro platform. If you're looking for information on this topic related to r8, see Verticalized by List exports.
Verticalized by List exports take a single list from the survey and display it vertically, allowing for its analysis alongside the survey fields that use it.
To create a Verticalized by List export, go to Analyze > Export Survey Data in the left navigation menu. Then, select Verticalized by List from the File Type dropdown. Exports can also be created from the Deliverables applet.
Caution: Verticalized by List exports are currently offered as a BETA release. Cross-check all data exports with a traditional export to confirm the data's accuracy.
Overview
Responses are displayed in a "verticalized" output with a single column for a question and multiple rows for each respondent record.
- Only lists that are created via the
set list
widget and referenced by at least one question can be used in a verticalized export. - Survey fields that use the selected list are automatically included in the report and displayed vertically.
- If additional fields are manually added to the report, they are displayed in their standard output at the end of the file.
- Blank cells indicate the list option was not shown to the respondent.
- Complex list constructions such as, but not limited to, crosslists and stacked data in a list, are not supported.
Tip! The Verticalized by List export differs from the Verticalized (Tableau) export in that it is driven by the selection and verticalization of a single list, as opposed to questions. A side-by-side comparison of these two reports can be found in Verticalized data and reports.
Report layout
Below is an example of a Verticalized by List export and its standard columns:
- id — The record_id with the appended option ID from the verticalized list.
-
record_id — The unique respondent ID, also known as the
trans_id
in other report types. - LISTNAME_index — The list selected in the By List Selection pane.
In the example above, column QS31 represents a checkbox question. Respondent TEST40003 has a value of '1' for SODABRANDS option 11 because it was selected. SODABRANDS option 12 has a value of '0' because it was not selected.
Creating a Verticalized by List export
To create a new export, use the modified Report Builder to select respondent statuses, apply filters, and choose the relevant survey fields to focus on the specific data you need. Then, choose a list to verticalize from the List menu in the By List Selection pane.
You can configure the report to use fields and option data from either the Draft or the most recent Published version of the survey via the Question set dropdown.
All survey fields that use the selected list are automatically included in the export and do not need to be selected in the Select Fields section, though any additional fields required for the report can be added here. The additional fields will be appended to the end of the report file. They are exported with the same data output they have in a standard Excel export, unlike the default fields, which have a verticalized presentation.
Lastly, customization options such as adding a description row or compressing the data file are available in the Advanced Export Options section.
