Version Notice: This article covers features in our r9/IS Pro platform. If you're looking for information on this topic related to r8, see Recalculate Fields.
The Recalculate Fields applet lets you alter the data for any variable or quota using cvalue
or selectby
tags. It's a helpful tool for recoding existing data when option logic changes or for populating previously blank fields.
To access the Recalculate Fields applet, go to Analyze > Data Management > Recalculate Fields in the Survey Navigation menu.
Using the applet
The Recalculate Fields applet works with the latest published version of a survey.
First, specify which respondents should have their data recalculated in the Records & Filters. If you check Data Cut, you can select previously created data cuts from a dropdown list to apply to the report. To create a new data cut, click the wrench icon to open the Expression Builder.
Next, select the Fields to Recalculate.
Before proceeding, review one additional option — Recalculate fields that already contain data.
- Unchecked: Populates only fields that are empty, ignoring fields that already contain data.
- Checked: Overwrites fields with existing data
After the recalculation process is complete, it's important to verify that the survey's data has been repopulated correctly by checking the data in a report or export.
Tip! When recalculating quotas, only "open" quotas are eligible to be punched. Carefully check all quota caps in the Quota Manager before and after recalculating data.
