The Incidence tile allows users to review the incidence completion rates (also known as the "IR") of respondents coming into the survey. This chart was built with many display options to satisfy the needs of a busy field manager.
The tile appears on the Survey Dashboard and in the Incidence applet found under the Field Management button group.
Tip! Use the new Incidence applet found in the Field Management button group to quickly see IR broken down by each panel. Also, you can add multiple tiles in this new workspace. Lastly, the new Field Management Summary applet also provides a quick overview of IR as well as a "clean rate."
Overview
The Incidence tile provides a graphic representation of incidence calculations over a given period of time. The Incidence Rate (%) is displayed on the vertical (Y) axis with time on the horizontal (X) axis, defaulting to the previous 24 hours. On each tile there are four lines in a graph that can be toggled on or off. Each line uses a unique formula for calculating incidence.
These can show the effectiveness of the sample targeting and screener questions, helping to answer questions such as:
- Are we inviting the right people?
- Are our screener questions too strict or too relaxed?
The following incidence rate calculations are displayed on the tile, where C = the number of Completes; T = the number of Terminated respondents; and Q = the number of respondents Over Quota.
- Average IR C/(C+T) (red) is the average incidence rate since the prior time marker (data point) on the line, using equally divided time intervals.
- Average IR C/(C+T+Q) (green) is the average incidence rate since the prior time marker on the line, using equally divided time intervals. This is similar to the red line calculations, but also adds in the number of Over Quota (Q) respondents to the denominator.
- Overall IR C/(C+T) (yellow) is the overall incidence rate as accrued during the currently displayed time interval (e.g., 24 hours), beginning with any already-accrued data since the start of fielding.
- Overall IR C/(C+T+Q) (purple) is the overall incidence rate as accrued during the currently displayed time interval (e.g., 24 hours), beginning with any already-accrued data since the start of fielding. This is similar to the yellow line calculations, but also adds in the number of Over Quota (Q) respondents to the denominator.
You can read more about respondent statuses in Understanding respondent statuses.
Occasionally there may be overlap between the lines. Each line can be hidden by clicking on its color code in the key. The color swatch will be grayed out when the line has been "deactivated."
Users may hover over the nodes on any line to display more information about that time period. The information displayed will depend on the calculation used for that line. All points will display the time and IR percentage, plus the C, T, and Q values used in the calculation. Note that the N value is only shown for Average IR calculations and is incremental since the prior point in time to allow field managers to react to sampling trends.
Explore different time intervals
In the top-right of the tile, you can utilize the Display Interval menu to select from an assortment of time spans. Users may choose to display the data from as little as the previous 6 hours up to the last 2 weeks, defaulting to 24 hours. Each time interval is divided into a preset number of equidistant data points relative to the time span represented.
Clicking on the Info icon next to the Display Interval menu will bring up a tooltip explaining the results over the selected time period. Unlike other tooltips used in the IntelliSurvey platform, this tooltip will remain visible until the X is clicked so that the user may compare data for several tiles at once if need be.
Customize an end point
Users may also select an end point for the survey's response data other than the most recently updated time. Under the Gear menu, select End point and choose from Last complete, Last activity, Now, or a specific date. If the latter is chosen, a calendar will appear, allowing you to select any date up until the current date. If a date was selected when the survey was not active, an explicit message will be displayed on the tile.
Applying a customized end point will shift the graph's data points based on the selection. Notice the "End point" will also be listed underneath the Updated on information above the vertical (Y) axis of the graph.
Apply a data filter
The Incidence tile reports on All records by default. To change this scope, click the Gear icon and select Filter from the menu. Next, click Choose to select an existing data cut, or click Syntax to create a new one.
Create a new filter
To create a new data cut/filter, select Syntax. If you are familiar with IntelliSurvey's survey programming language (SPL) and you already know how to reference the variables you need, write your logical expression in the Expression text field. In all other circumstances, you should click on the Wrench icon to use the Expression Builder modal for assistance.
Once a filter has been applied, the graph will update to show the incidence rates for that specific subset of respondents, and the filter will be displayed below the Updated on information on the graph.
To disable the filter, click the Gear icon then Filter > Off.
Add multiple tiles to the Survey Dashboard
Up to five Incidence tiles can be added to a Survey Dashboard. This allows you to view data related to various data cuts and display different intervals simultaneously. For example, you might display a unique tile for a specific panel or for a tough demographic. The workplace configuration is also persistent; when the browser tab is closed and reopened, the tiles are preserved and restored.
