The Activity tile reports on certain back-end survey events and stores them in a scrollable log. The tile appears on the Survey Dashboard and HOME page in the Dashboard, Summary Tiles view. If you are on your Survey Dashboard, the Activity tile appears on the dashboard as one of the six default tiles.
Note: Survey Managers, Editors, QA Testers, Template Creators, and Survey Owners have rights to view this tile. For more information on who can view this tile, review the Roles and rights overview.
Overview
The back-end events logged in the tile fall into three categories:
- Activity (A) - shown in green
- Notification (N) - shown in yellow
- Errors (E) - shown in red.
The log may be filtered by each category by clicking the A, N, or E buttons on the top of the tile.
The following events are some of the most common survey activities reported in the log:
- Survey updates and publishing
- Survey update compilation failures
- Survey stage updates
- Data/respondent deletions
- Panels added via the Panel applet.
Certain types of errors are triggered by respondent activity. Such events are logged as a single notification that includes a parentheses containing a count of the number of times the error occurred, rather than generating a new log entry in the tile for each time the offending code is executed by a different respondent.
The following events are some of the most common notifications and will be reported in the log:
- Xslate errors
- Perl errors
- Panel redirect errors.
In the rare event a red error appears in the log, please reach out to a Support agent to inquire if anything should be investigated or be of concern.
Controls
Three controls can be found in the upper-right corner of the tile. Click on the Gear menu to export the tile's events in an Excel file. It will export the tile with the filters on/off, if applicable. Click on the square with opposing arrows to expand the tile for readability, or click on the X to remove the tile from your dashboard.
User impersonation
Occasionally it may be necessary to impersonate another user for troubleshooting purposes (e.g., to see whether a user having issues making a report is related to a server issue or an account error) or to simply help a client complete a task. Advanced users with System Roles of Survey Creator, Team Leader, Superuser, or System Administrator can impersonate other users with lower permissions. When a user impersonates another user, their activities are recorded and displayed with an ambulance icon, the original user's login, and the impersonated user's login. See example below.
On the HOME dashboard in Summary Tiles view
You can use your HOME page to create a comprehensive dashboard of all your projects. On your HOME page, switch from the default Survey Navigator to the Dashboard Summary Tiles view. Then, add a new survey tile to the main dashboard. Once the survey tile is available, click on the ACTIVITY button to switch from the overall status view to the activity log. Similar to the Activity tile found on the Survey Dashboard, you can filter and export the log as needed.
