To define a data cut that applies to a single tile only, use Filter. Different filters can apply to different tiles within a single Topline report, as opposed to the data cut defined by the Record Selector, which applies to every tile in a Topline Report.
Using a tile filter
To use a Topline tile filter, open the tile Gear menu and select Filter.
There are three ways to use Filter:
- selecting the Custom Expr option to input or create a data cut filter in IntelliSurvey syntax,
- selecting Specify ID to input the ID of an existing data cut, or
- using a previously defined Gear Menu Filter created in the Data Cuts applet.
Creating custom filters
The Custom Expr option allows users to type a custom expression (filter) in IntelliSurvey syntax in a tex tfield. The field will accept any logic or checked functions, such as: $status eq 'C'
, anyChecked(Q5,3,4)
, Q1 == 3
, and so on.
Users may also create a data cut filter via the Expression Builder modal by clicking the Wrench icon. After selecting the Field, operator (is, is greater than, etc.), and Option, click Apply to see the resulting condition in IntelliSurvey syntax in the Expression Output textbox. Multiple conditions can be linked with And or Or conjunctions to create complex conditions. After the desired filter is created, click the Use Expression button to use the filter without saving it, or enter a description in the textfield at the bottom of the modal. This will activate the Save and Use Data Cut button. Clicking either button will return the user to the Topline tile and apply the filter.
Specifying a data cut ID
To apply a data cut that already exists, select the Specify ID option and enter the ID for a previously saved data cut in the textfield. To locate a data cut ID, navigate to the Data Cuts applet, and expand the Comparison Group containing the cut you wish to reference. The data cut ID is listed in the ID column.
Then, enter the target data cut's ID into the Specify ID textfield and the data cut will be applied to the tile.
Add data cuts to a filter comparison group
It is also possible to create new data cuts within the Data Cuts applet by adding them directly to the Gear Menu Filters comparison group, which will always be present within the Data Cuts applet. To add a new cut that will be available in the Filter menu within Topline tiles' Gear menus, select Gear Menu Filters from the In Group menu in the Create Data Cut modal.
For more information on creating Gear Menu Filters or other filters via the Data Cut applet, see Data Cuts.
Applying a Data Cut Filter to All Tiles
The Broadcast option applies the filter selection in the current tile to all other tiles in the current Topline Report. This differs from utilizing the Record Selector, because the Broadcast filter is applied in real-time, and preserves any other tile modifications in the current report.
