The most common type of closed-end questions are single data axis questions. These questions automatically render tiles as bar graphs, and display as percentages. The total respondent count in the data cut for the report, n, is displayed in parentheses in the title bar next to the question label. Options are ordered by counts: those with the greatest counts appear at the top, and are then listed in descending order. If there are more options than can fit within the graph, they are not all shown, and a message indicating the number of excluded options is included on the left hand side of the graph (near the Y-axis).
To configure a single data axis Topline tile, click the Gear icon in the tile's title bar.
This reveals a menu with nested options. The options available for closed-ended tiles are listed below.
All Topline tiles include the Gear menu options Export, Insert Tiles, Clone, and Refresh. For more information on these universal options, click universal options.

Bar Chart |
Displays data as a bar chart. Options are displayed on the Y-axis of the tile, percentages on the X-axis, and counts within each bar. This is the default selection for single data axis closed-ended tiles. |
Pie Chart | Displays data as a pie chart. Options and counts are displayed within each pie slice, and mousing-over a slice reveals percentages. |
Chart Title | |
Default | Applies the default chart title, as defined by the question text, row text (in the case of tables), or a desc tag (if applied). This is the default selection. |
Custom | Allows you to specify custom text to use as the title. When selected, a text field appears which allows you to enter the text. |
Colors | |
Default | Applies the default chart color scheme. |
Custom |
Allows for alternate colors to be specified in a text field. Acceptable inputs include basic color names (e.g., red, blue) or hex values (#2F4F4F, #D3D3D3, etc.). See Topline Colors for a list of available colors. |

Sort Reverse | Flips the selected sort order. |
Show Empties |
Shows response buckets which have N = 0. Available for bar charts only (and active by default). |
Show X-Axis | Turns on the display for the X-axis. The percent of total respondents is shown on this axis. Available for bar charts only. |
Limit |
Enforces a maximum number of response buckets which appear in the graph on the tile. Available for bar charts only. If a limit is applied, the tile will display "(show X more)", where "X" is the number of additional buckets/options not being shown. Clicking on this will cause the tile to display the hidden response buckets. If not selected, the default limit is 150 options. |
Packages |
There are a great many configuration options available for Topline tiles. To make these options easier to manage, it is possible to save sets of option selections so that they may be recalled together. These groups of options are called packages. |
Filter |
To define a data cut that applies to a single tile only, use Filter. Different filters can apply to different tiles within a single Topline report, as opposed to the data cut defined by the Record Selector, which applies to every tile in a Topline report. |

Compare By |
Compare By is a tool that allows users to view data from a given question through the lens of Comparison Groups created from another question. The comparison groups create an additional axis of data which is used to create a graphical cross-tabulation between the original question and the selected Compare By question. |
Response Buckets |
Buckets transform response options from the values defined in the survey source into different values for reporting purposes. These proxy values are defined in a survey spreadsheet, and the values only apply to the Topline summary tile for which the feature is enabled. Actual raw survey data is not modified. In addition to individual options, buckets also allow option ranges to be distilled into different numeric values, and those values may be positive or negative, exclusive or overlapping. The most common application of this feature is for NPS reporting.
|
Trend |
Some studies are re-run multiple times and so gather data for the same fields for multiple iterations of fielding. The Topline report's Trend feature enables longitudinal analysis for data in these studies, so that data from different waves of fielding can be compared readily. |
Not all options are available for limited reports users for security reasons.
