Data cuts, comparison groups, saved reports, and export files may be imported or exported through the Migration applet. This applet can be reached via the Reports button group's Migration option.
The Migration applet is broken into two categories for exporting and importing - Data Cuts and Comparison Groups and Deliverables (saved reports and data exports).
Exporting files
Exporting of either data cuts and comparison groups, or Deliverables, will lead to downloading of all of such content that a user has access to for that survey. Simply press the Export button and the export file will be downloaded as a CSV file.
The ability to download all existing data cuts and comparison groups, or exports and reports, for a survey is useful because:
- it allows the user to review and edit data cuts en masse, and
- the CSV file can then be uploaded for use in other surveys via the Import feature.
This latter reason may be particularly useful if multiple surveys contain sections of identical questions and the same filters or saved reports are needed. Before the advent of Migration, users needed to recreate the same saved reports and data cuts many times over for such projects.
Importing files
Whether choosing to import data cuts and comparison groups, or deliverables, these must be imported as a CSV file. Typically importing will involve using files exactly as exported from another survey, but for advanced users, an exported file could be edited to isolate just the needed filters, reports, or exports. In this case, save the document as CSV before performing the Import.
Importing data cuts & comparison groups
To import a csv file of data filters and comparison groups, click the Import button under the Data Cuts and Comparison Groups section. This will bring users to the Import Data Cuts and Banners screen. Click the Choose file button to select a spreadsheet for upload, then click Next to continue.
Note: Advanced users may want to edit the file before importing if there are extraneous data filters or comparison groups in the file. If need be, filters and comparison groups can also be edited or deleted after upload in the Data Cuts applet.
On the next screen, a table will appear breaking down the results for the user to verify prior to continuing. This screen shows the initial processing results from uploading the CSV file.
If any issues occur when attempting to input the file, they will shown at the top of the screen. The Resubmit Source button will become active if there are errors, and users should click this to try resubmitting the targeted file (assuming a change has been saved to the same file), or click Back to upload a different file.
This screen will also list the number of data cuts and comparison groups included in the file. An expandable/collapsible table section appears for each category, with data cuts listed under the Filter portion of the table. Each section will list the item's Type (Comparison Groups or Filter), ID number, Description, Expression (the logic used for the filter or group), and Creator (user's email). After reviewing the information to be imported, click Confirm to continue.
The final screen will display the results of importing the csv file. Any warnings or notifications about the data uploaded will be shown in yellow, including issues such as uploading a filter using a pre-existing ID number that required renumbering.
Issues that appear here can be edited in the Data Cuts applet. If the upload was unsuccessful, the Back button will become active, and clicking this allows users to attempt to resubmit the file or import a different file instead.
To view the newly uploaded data cuts and comparison groups, click the Data Cuts & Banners button to be taken to the Data Cuts applet.
Importing deliverables
To import a csv file of saved reports and exports, click the Import button in the Deliverables section of the page. This will take you to the Import Deliverables screen. Click on the Choose File button to select a spreadsheet to upload, then press Next to continue.
As with importing data cuts and comparison groups, it may be easier to edit the file before uploading it.
On the next screen, the user will be shown the initial processing results of uploading the file. If there are any issues, they will be displayed at the top of the screen, and the user may press the Resubmit Source button to try again, or press the Back button to submit another file. If the file was initially uploaded without issues, the Resubmit Source button will be inactive.
This screen will provide the user with the number of reports and exports files that will be added via upload. An expandable/collapsible table will display a breakdown of the files by type (Export or Report). Each file will show the ID number, Reporting Format (Report or Export), Type (report type or export file type), Description, and Creator (user's email). After reviewing the file descriptions, press Confirm to continue.
The final screen will display the results of the deliverables upload. Users may receive warnings (in yellow) that could indicate issues such as overlapping report IDs that required newly generated IDs, or specified fields from a report not existing in a Dev or Pub mode for a dataset. Issues that appear here may simply be notifications, or may be issues to address from the Deliverables applet.
If the file was successfully uploaded, users can click the Deliverables button to be taken to the Deliverables applet where their newly uploaded content should appear.
