Topline tiles are highly configurable. This allows them to suit many different question types and data presentation needs. In some cases, it is desirable to pre-configure these tile display options from the survey source rather than relying on the reporting user interface. A major advantage of specifying the display output from the source is that the tiles appear in the specified configuration by default, every time they are loaded. This differs from configuring the display options in the Reports interface, where the display options are only recalled if the report containing the customized tile is saved. When the saved report is loaded, the settings are retained, but creating other reports which contain a tile for that question do not display with the customized settings.

reportbyrows — The
reportbyrows
tag alters the output of certain types of Topline tiles. -
Response buckets — Buckets transform response options from the values defined in the survey source into different values for reporting purposes. These proxy values are defined in a survey spreadsheet, and the values only apply to the Topline summary tile for which the feature is enabled. Actual raw survey data is not modified. In addition to individual options, buckets also allow option ranges to be distilled into different numeric values, and those values may be positive or negative, exclusive or overlapping. The most common application of this feature is for NPS reporting.

Packages — There are a great many configuration options available for Topline tiles. To make these options easier to manage, it is possible to save sets of option selections so that they may be recalled together. These groups of options are called packages.

Indexed filters — Indexed filters are a type of data cut. They are designed to allow the comparison of like-for-like responses for different verticals with a single data cut. Rather than create a logical expression for each question row or question column in the Data Cuts applet and manually apply each one to its own Topline tile, an indexed filter can automate the process. It only requires a single expression to be written, and automatically tailors the expression to each column or row within the tile to which it is applied.

reportoptions — Use the
reportoptions
tag to specify display options which will be loaded every time the tile for that question appears in a Topline report. All of the options which can be selected from the Gear menu on a given tile can be edited via this tag.
